Theft from Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

I would like to make you aware of the following vehicle crime that have taken place in your area over the last couple of weeks,

41/49050/26 The Common Car Park between 2.15pm and 3.37pm on the 27th May. A car has been keyed.

41/52456/26 Lemsford Road between 12pm on the 22nd May and 12pm on the 30th May a passenger and driver doors have been scratched.

41/51834/26 Behind the flats in town centre a resident has parked their scooter, between 2.30pm on the 3rd June and 9am on the 4th June the number plates have been stolen.

41/51985/26 Asda car park between 9pm on the 3rd June and 5am on the 4th June a vehicle has had its number plates stolen.

If you have any information relating to these crimes please contact Police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the relevant crime reference number.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.
